WSUP journal wins Society for the Study of Early Modern Women and Gender Essay Award

Friday, November 12, 2021

Wayne State University Press is pleased to announce that an article from Criticism: A Quarterly for Literature and the Arts has won the 2021 Society for the Study of Early Modern Women and Gender (SSEMWG) Award for Best Essay/Article. The article by Lara Dodds and Michelle M. Dowd, “Happy Accidents: Critical Belatedness, Feminist Formalism, and Early Modern Women's Writing,” appeared in the Spring 2020 issue of Criticism. The SSEMWG awards committee described the article as “closely argued and path-breaking…a call-to-arms…[that] decries the continued marginalization of work by scholars who study early modern women as well as the sidelining of women, as historical actors, authors, and artists within early modern studies more broadly.”

The article can be found on Project Muse and JSTOR and will be available to read for free through March 2022.
