Stephanie Williams appointed director of WSU Press

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

Stephanie Williams has been appointed director of Wayne State University Press, effective early August 2020.

Williams served as Director at Ohio University Press and replaces Kathryn Wildfong, who recently returned from retirement to serve a five-month term as the interim director of the Press.

Williams began her publishing career as a promotions assistant at Pelican Publishing Company, followed by marketing management roles at the University Press of Florida, the University of Missouri Press, and the University Press of Kentucky.

She is an Association of University Presses board member and serves on several of the organization’s committees, including the Equity, Justice, and Inclusion Committee; the Annual Meeting Program Committee; and the Intellectual Property and Copyright Committee.

Wayne State University Press began reporting to the Office of the President in February 2020. WSU Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and Chief of Staff, Michael Wright reports, “I am delighted that Stephanie will be joining the University Press as our new director. Her talent and credentials are exceptional, and I feel she is an excellent fit with the team and the university. Her leadership will make a difference for the Press, the university, and the community. For me it has been a joy to work with the Press since it has begun reporting to the president's office, and I'm happy it will continue to do so. The addition of Stephanie is yet another big step forward. I also wish to thank Kathryn Wildfong for stepping in as interim director while we conducted a new search. She did a great job getting the team refocused and re-energized, and we all wish her well on her second try at retirement.”
