It’s a Party!
A Book Reception for Saint Peter and the Goldfinch by Jack Ridl
April 5, 6:30pm
Douglas UCC Church
56 Wall Street, Douglas, MI
Jack’s latest collection of poetry, Saint Peter and the Goldfinch, will be released by Wayne State University Press -- with its beautiful Meridith Ridl cover art -- on April 1.
Because, of course! Jack has a long history with April 1. Just ask one of his thousands of students. Also, it’s the first day of National Poetry Month. Reason enough for a party... obviously. We will hold this party on Friday, April 5. That evening, we will begin with a poetry reading in the church’s sanctuary, and try not to cause lightning to strike. Then we float into the church for music, food, drinks, books, book signing, probably dancing, and just fun.
As is tradition with all of Ridl’s book parties, costumes are optional but encouraged. Come as a bird or saint you admire, as a poet, a character from any of Jack’s books, or come as you are. Because why not entertain Jack while he’s entertaining us?
Hey, poetry is part of the gift economy. Would you help share in that by bringing a bottle for the bar, and maybe a plate of finger food for the table? Bring what you can, not what you can’t. But please be sure to bring yourself.
That’s the best gift for Jack!
