Learn how to pitch your book and get it published by a university press in Michigan. About this event Want to submit your manuscript to a Michigan press, but don't know where to start or how to catch the eye of an editor? Join The Detroit Writing Room for a Speakers Series ft. Michigan Presses on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. EST. Directors from the Wayne State University Press, University of Michigan Press and Michigan State University Press will offer tips and advice for aspiring authors who want to submit their book proposal and get published. The virtual event is moderated by Wayne State University Press Board of Visitors member and author Desiree Cooper. Panelists: Gabriel Dotto, director of Michigan State University Press Elizabeth Sherburn Demers, editorial director of University of Michigan Press Stephanie Williams, director of Wayne State University Press Attendees will receive digital materials on the pitching and publishing process. Each panelist has also picked out a new release they recommend if you're looking for a good book to read this fall! Schedule: 7 - 7:15 p.m. - Guest and panelist introductions 7:15 - 8 p.m. - Panel discussion 8 - 8:30 p.m. - Live Q&A Tickets: General admission is $20. $5 of every ticket supports the DWR's nonprofit arm Coaching Detroit Forward which offers free writing and photography programs for Detroit students. This event is recorded, and anyone who buys a ticket will receive a video recap. Student Tickets: Detroit high school students can attend for free via Coaching Detroit Forward. Choose student admission when you register. Tickets are non refundable. A Zoom link will be emailed the day of the event. Registration closes at 6:30 p.m. EST on Sept. 30.
