Free and open to the public
On Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:00pm, join veteran journalist and author John Gallagher to celebrate the release of Yamasaki in Detroit: A Search for Serenity, a beautiful full-color book celebrating one of the 20th century’s greatest architects in his adopted hometown. The book explores Minoru Yamasaki’s life-long drive to craft tranquil spaces amid bustling cities reflected in prominent works like the Michigan Consolidated Gas Building in downtown Detroit, Temple Beth-El in Bloomfield Township, and the landmark buildings on Wayne State University.
The event will take place in WSU’s McGregor Memorial Conference Center, a Yamasaki-designed masterpiece that was recently named a national historic landmark, and will feature a presentation by Gallagher, light appetizers and a cash bar. Books will be available for sale and signing.
Wayne State University Press gratefully acknowledges the organizations that generously supported the publication of this book: Friends of Modern and Contemporary Art, Detroit Institute of Arts and Yamasaki, Inc.
